When we were teenagers

Do you remember travelling around the county,

Meeting and making new friends over the course of this

last remaining period of young-adult-hood?

--Drinking and smoking and and throwing up and crying were things I didn't realize would be part of the package (you insisted).

(201): its been quite some time since ive traveled with friendly company in search of suburban adventure.

It always felt like everything was empty and inert during the day,

Only coming back to life after the clock struck 8;

Headlights on 17 of cars going well past 50 used to remind me
of the way blood pumps in and out of a heart,

--But only memories of late night diner runs, rooftop menageries, and terrible boyfriends have remained (but you insisted).

(201): i cant,

Now when I drive through those same streets

I notice that everything is truly dead;

Not in the sense that these places are ghost towns,

But in the sense that all the people I've met
through the course of my life have gone missing

-All the people who brought life to my world are gone (you always insisted).

(201): all i can see are ghosts.
